♦ Course Description and Goals

image ESL stands for English as a Second Language. Students learn English grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary. Cornerstone’s ESL program offers 8 levels of English from Beginner to UpperAdvanced. Cornerstone Academic College understands that studying abroad is a big investment for any student. We also understand that being fluent in English has become an asset for anyone in the job market. With this in mind, Cornerstone is now taking a step further towards a better English education by offering new programs, different from other schools. As a result, we are proud to present our brand new Integrated ESL for Daily Life and the Workplace Program.

♦ Who may enroll in Integrated ESL:

  • Students looking to improve their communication ability in daily life
  • Students looking to improve their employable skills for the job market
  • Beginner level students whose English skills are not advance enough to enroll in our Business ESL Program yet
  • Students planning to work in Canada after completing their program (Work & Study students)
  • Students planning to enroll in our Internship Program after completing their studies at Cornerstone
  • Students who can only afford to study for a short period of time, but wish to gain a valuable English education for the future

  • Telephone English: taking and leaving a message
  • English for the Restaurant Industry
  • Business Writing: letters & reports
  • Interview practice, business meetings, presentations and more!

  • Have at least 4 years of teaching experience; some have over 20 years, while most have an average of 8 years of experience
  • Prepare organized and wellplanned lessons each day

* TESL Canada introduces the Integrated Methodology as the most modern methodology for teaching English.


* The TESL Canada National Certification Standards for Instructors of English as a Second Language or Foreign Language in Adult Programs was developed for instructors trained in Canada.

To succeed in today’s international business world, you need more than a strong knowledge of general English. If you can show that you have relevant business language skills, you will have a far greater advantage in the job market. Cornerstone students now have the benefit of using the internationally acclaimed Cambridge ESOL Business English Certificates (BEC) to assess English language in working environments, and to help them work towards their future career goals.

♦ ESL course Overview:

  • Intensive (28 hours per week): 8:45 15:45
  • General (20 hours per week): 8:45 12:30
  • Recommended duration: 4 weeks up to 48 weeks (2 or 3 week registrations are also accepted)
  • Start Date: Every Monday (please see calendar for exact dates)

** All teachers have a TESL certificate, and university degree. We have confidence in the quality of our teachers and classes. All of our teachers have at least three year's experience, most have over 7, and they take teachin English seriously.

** Students receive evaluations from teachers every session. Students can see their weakness/improvement and receive necessary advice.

** Students are evaluated by attendance, scores on quizzes, exams, assignments and class activities.

** Students must achieve 70 % in order to move up to the next level or complete the course.

** If students are absent more than 3 times within a term without a good reason, they will not be able to move up.

♦ Requirements:

Students must be at least 17 years of age.
