IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. IELTS is offered through more than 500 locations in over 130 countries.
IELTS is accepted by more than 6000 organizations worldwide. These include universities, immigration departments, government agencies, professional bodies and multinational companies.
IELTS has two versions – Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those who want to study at a postsecondary level in an Englishspeaking country. The General Training test is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an Englishspeaking country. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests. The Listening is 30 minutes, the Reading 60 minutes, Writing 60 minutes and Speaking 11–14 minutes. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.
♦ CORNERSTONE’S ACADEMIC AND GENERAL IELTS PREPARATION PROGRAMS
Cornerstone’s IELTS preparation programs are 4 , 8 or 12 week (28 hours per week: 8:45 am - 3:45pm) programs designed to help students get their required score on either the Academic or General Training versions of the IELTS test. The Programs cover all four sections of the IELTS test with special emphasis on the writing and speaking sections. Students will learn test taking skills and time management along with language skills.
♦ ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
All candidates must score at least 50 (UpperIntermediate level) on Cornerstone’s placement test.

Teachers use materials from a wide variety of sources.
♦ AREAS OF STUDY
- Speaking: Speaking about familiar topics, speaking at length about a topic, discussion about abstract topics, organizing
- answers, pronunciation, fluency
- Listening: Listening to and understanding conversations, getting used to different accents
- Reading: Skimming, Scanning, Comprehension
- Writing: Writing various types of letters and essays, letter and essay forms, summarizing graphs and charts
- Grammar and Vocabulary: Improving accuracy and range
Students will be given reading or writing work to do outside of the classroom.
Students will receive extensive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in all four sections of the test from the teacher during class time. Students will complete model IELTS tests to allow them to see their approximate level and their progress.
